flower (フラワ), known as Ci flower (シィ フラワー) for CeVIO, is a Japanese Song Voice developed by INCS Toenter Co., Ltd. in collaboration with Gynoid Co., Ltd. and Techno-Speech, Inc., and was released for CeVIO AI in March 2023.[2][3][4][5][6] On her CeVIO AI Song Voice's first anniversary in March 2024, she was also ported to VoiSona Song.[7]

Her voice provider is unrevealed.

Ci flower is officially regarded as flower's "another if" (もう一つのif).[8] Not to be confused with VOCALOID flower, this character is set officially as a new flower from a parallel world.

Concept[]

Ci flower is described as an official spin-off of the popular rock-focused Gynoid character "flower", developed using recordings from the same individual who previously voiced "flower". The concept revolves around "a new 'flower' existing in a parallel world." Titled as the "another 'if'" of "flower", this character emerges with a fresh visual image.[9] Ci flower's logo, stylized in the shape of an orbital plane, is likely a reference to her background.

Unlike VOCALOID flower, who is described as a kuudere on her website, Ci flower's personality is left up to interpretation. The official Ci flower Twitter account depicts her as friendly, emotive, and slightly airheaded, as well as sometimes making puns with her name.[10][11] After a fan inquired about the state of v flower, she replied that she also wants to support v flower as much as she can from her current position.[12]

On August 3, 2023, during an interview with smart Web fashion magazine, Kazutaka Sugimoto (杉本和貴), the director of INCS Toenter Co., Ltd., joined by Yudai Katsuta (勝田裕大) from Ci flower's development team, discussed the concept and background of Ci flower further in depth. Ci flower was noted to have the theme of "IF" (もしも, "what if"), with the creation of a character based on the interpretation of what would happen if "flower" existed in a different world. Sugimoto discussed the concept of Ci flower with her official illustrator Oguchi, who drew the character design while inheriting the "cool image" of previous "v flower" designs.[13]

A life-size standee found at the official Ci flower's booth during an event held later in October that same year had a height of roughly 141 cm (including shoes).[14]

Etymology[]

The "Ci" in Ci flower's name likely stands for CeVIO, just as the "v" in "v flower" software and products is used to refer to VOCALOID. The name "flower" originates from the wish of flower "blooming like a flower" in VOCALOID.[15]

For Ci flower specifically, the character itself is referred to as "Ci flower" by name both in the official website's character guidelines and the official Twitter.[16][17] Voisona guidelines ask that creators using voice waveforms output from VoiSona's "Ci flower" Voice Library, list "Ci flower" in the credits as the name of the character used.[18]

Ci flower's character design is a departure from those of VOCALOID flower's, having a sleek, futuristic aesthetic. A reference sheet by Oguchi reveals that Ci flower is an android or biomech, having visible mechanical divets in place of ears. The divets are grey, with a light blue ring glowing inside. Ci flower has light blue eyes and choppy, white, shoulder-length bobbed hair with orange-pink tips. Two thicker strands atop her head are dark purple. The ends of her hair curl around chunky, violet, strapless headphones. A purple choker adorns her neck. The upper part of Ci flower's top is short-sleeved with a v-shaped neckline. There are three white straps along her chest, with the longest attached in the middle to a chest stopper. The lower part of her top below the straps is of translucent grey material. Her heavy black coat has the Ci flower logo printed on the shoulder in gold. The inside of her coat is light blue. Her shorts are black with vertical burnt orange stripes, held fast by a clear belt with an orange belt buckle. On her feet are large grey and midnight purple boots, with orange laces over purple and orange knee-high socks. Her long fingernails are painted a soft lavender color. The soles of her boots are grey, with a small light blue panel in the center of each.

Marketing[]

In April 2014, flower was promoted through a HoneyWorks original song, "イノコリ先生 (Inokori Sensei)". The character rights were owned by Gynoid Co., Ltd. despite being released before the company was fully established in August 2014.

In April of 2022, flower's new CeVIO AI details were unveiled in affiliation with the community song contest, "The VOCALOID Collection".[20] The VOCALOID Collection account announced that there would be a campaign of flower stickers available at Nico Nico Chokaigi's "Super Painter Exhibition", where the final illustration for the voice would be displayed.

On April 29, Ci flower's CeVIO AI illustration was first revealed to the public at the 2022 Nico Nico Chokaigi "Super Painter Exhibition". Her illustrator was revealed to be Oguchi.[21][22] A press release from Gynoid Co., Ltd. on the same day revealed that a new company INCS Toenter Co., Ltd. was decided to handle the release of Ci flower between Autumn to Winter of 2022. She was announced to have three purchase options available including:

  • Starter Pack Package Version (CeVIO AI Song Editor + Song Voice)
  • Starter Pack Download Version (CeVIO AI Song Editor + Song Voice)
  • Voice Pack Download Version (Song Voice only)[3]

On July 16, the official Ci flower Twitter released a statement announcing a change from the original Autumn to Winter 2022 release date, to the New Year of 2023. An apology was issued and it was stated that further efforts would be made toward the new release date with an appreciation message of continued support. It was also stated that new information would be provided in a follow-up report.[2] An official website was launched for Ci flower on the same day.[23]

On October 15, an original "Ci flowART 祭" festival illustration contest for flower was held to commemorate the release of Ci flower. Users were directed to submit illustrations featuring flower to the "#Ci_flowART祭" tag on Twitter with a free theme. The deadline for the contest ran until December 31 where three prizes were awarded. A "Gold Award" including prize money of ¥100,000 yen, a Ci flower Award Commemorative Shield and a secret prize which would be announced at a later time. A "Silver Award", including just the Award Commemorative Shield and secret prize and a "Bronze Award" including the Award Commemorative Shield only.[24] The results of the contest were announced on February 25, 2023.[25][26]

Pre-order reservations of Ci flower's packaged edition included a free Ci flower-themed acrylic stand and a free digital wallpaper for digital purchases through the INCS Toenter Co., Ltd. Online Store.[27][28]

An official compilation album, Ci flower Masterpiece, released on March 27th, 2024. In addition to her demonstration songs, the album also includes the winning song from the "Ci flower Song Contest" held with the cooperation of TuneCore Japan, as well as the bonus track "Kisara / Ci-chan Crisis," making for a total of 18 tracks.[29] The album's jacket is illustrated by Oguchi. As a special bonus for purchasing from the official store, purchasers received a "Jacket Alternative Version Sticker (80mm wide x 90mm high)" with an alternate illustration also by Oguchi.[30]

For April Fool's Day 2024, the characters CFL-900 and CFL-100 took over Ci flower's Twitter page for a day.[31] The characters are state-of-the-art androids equipped with a variety of advanced features that can be immediately useful in the home. CFL-100 is the easy to use model, while CFL-900 is the multifunctional model. Merchandise, such as acrylic stands and stickers of the characters, were released in the official Ci flower store the same day.[32]

Throughout the remainder of 2024, additional illustrations of Ci flower were gradually released as materials for creators, created by artists Gomahichi, Shiroice, and Kuromuji.[33][34][35] The illustrations were distrubuted from the official Ci flower blog. Merchandise using the illustrations were later released in the official Ci flower store on October 11th.[36]

Ci flower's vocal is regarded as a vocal that has an androgynous tone, meaning that it has a lack of feminine or masculine traits. It can therefore be used as both male and female roles in music. Her vocal is suitable for genres such as rock music and favours faster tempos over slow.
