HAL-O-ROID (ハルオロイド・ミナミ, HAL-O-ROID MINAMI) is a Japanese Song Voice developed by Teichiku Records Co., Ltd., and was released for CeVIO Creative Studio in October 2016. He is the first vocal to ever be released by this company.

He was derived from the deceased Enka singer Haruo Minami.

Concept[]

Similar in nature to VOCALOID vocals "Ueki-loid" and "hide", HAL-O-ROID is an attempt to resurrect the voice of a deceased singer, though is the first to be offered as a public product instead of a private project.

According to his profile, his favorite food is rice, and he likes all genres of music.

Etymology[]

"HAL-O-ROID" is meant to mean "Haruo droid", with "HAL-O" playing on the vowel sound of "uo" and the interchangeable nature of "l/r" in Japanese.

It is also a reference to the common use of "-roid" or "-loid" for "android" within vocal synthesizers, as made famous by the software "VOCALOID" (meaning "vocal and roid" and also a play on the interchangeable nature of "l/r").

Appearances[]

HAL-O-ROID's provider is renowned for his appearance on stage in a kimono, which was rarely seen for male singers, making him stand out. This has been carried over to the CeVIO avatar. His kimono is blue, and he wears dark blue sandals with white socks. He has short black hair.

History[]

Marketing[]

HAL-O-ROID had no prior announcements before his release on October 20, 2016. He was a free downloadable voice, making him easily accessible to users.

His provider gained a lot of respect and good reputation for his well treatment of his audience and was known to treat them as "God". He believed that their word was correct and that a dissatisfied audience was to his own fault and not theirs. This gained him quite a following, and he became a national singer over time.

Alongside his release, a MikuMikuDance version of his 3D model by Kaneko Ranou was distributed.[1]

In December 2017, a album titled "Minami Haruo HAL-O-ROID Minami Complete Song Collection" (三波春夫 ハルオロイド・ミナミ 全曲集, Minami Haruo HAL-O-ROID Minami Zenkyokushuu) was released. Disc 1 features Minami Haruo himself while disc 2 features HAL-O-ROID. On the same day, a single was released titled "Beifun Japan!" (米粉ジャパン!). It was done in collaboration with the Japan Rice Flour Association (日本米粉協会, Nihon Beifu Kyoukai).
