KAFU (可不, 音楽的同位体 可不) is a Japanese Song Voice developed by KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO in collaboration with the virtual singer KAF, and was released for CeVIO AI in July 2021.[1][2] She is part of the Musical Isotope Project.
On July 7, 2023, at the end of the "V.I.P -Virtual Isotope Phenomenon- 1st" livestream, it was announced that KAFU would be released as an AI voice database for Synthesizer V Studio and was expected to release in winter 2023.[3]
Her voice is provided by KAF, the virtual singer KAFU was made in collaboration with.
Concept[]
KAFU is advertised as a "Musical Isotope" (音楽的同位体) of KAF.[4] This is likely done as a way of separating KAFU from KAF.[5] Her signature color is blue, specifically hex code #0000FF.[6]
Etymology[]
KAFU's name is a combination of "KAF", her voice provider, and "You", stylized as "U".
The kanji of her name, 可不 (KAFU) derives from "kanousei" (可能性) meaning "possibility," and "fukakai" 不可解 meaning "mysterious, incomprehensible." It takes from the first character of each word respectively (可能性 and 不可解; kanousei and fukakai.) In addition, "Fukakai," or "Incomprehensible" is a song sung by KAF, and it is one of her more notable songs.
Additionally, the name "KAFU" shares its romanization with KAF's character "Morisaki Kafu" (森先化歩) from KAMITSUBAKI CITY UNDER CONSTRUCTION. (神椿市建設中。) So far, this trait is also shared by the other Musical Isotopes.
Appearance[]
KAFU's appearance and theme are based on that of her voice provider KAF with many similar design elements and an overall white color-scheme. She wears a heavy white jacket with blue and black detailing and a hood similar to that of KAF's own attire. She also wears an over-the-knee length black dress, white tights, yellow socks, and blue heeled short boots. Her hair is snow white and bobbed with low pigtails on either side, which is reminiscent of KAF's hairstyle, and is adorned with large diamond shaped hair clips. Her eyes are dark blue and purple.

On January 21, 2021, along with information about KAFU's CeVIO release details and full illustration, an original compilation album, KAF+YOU KAFU COMPILATION ALBUM, was announced.[7] After KAFU's pre-order period was launched on March 14, a special retweet campaign was announced to commemorate her upcoming release, in which 10 users would be selected to receive her CeVIO AI Starter Pack.[8]
KAF 2nd ONE-MAN LIVE concert,
On June 11, 2021, KAFU performed on stage live alongside KAF during the KAF 2nd ONE-MAN LIVE「Fukakai Q2」 (花譜2nd ONE-MAN LIVE「不可解弐Q2」) concert. They performed one song together, 不埒な喝采 (Furachi na Kassai).[9]
Official fan-art merchandise of popular songs featuring KAFU was released for pre-order through the official KAFU FINDME STORE on September 14, 2021 [10] Merchandise included post-cards, clear files, mug, light-up acrylice stand, wireless charger, PC case and a mousepad.
On November 17, 2021, it was announced that works featuring KAFU were accepted on Piapro, a well-known Japanese center of the VOCALOID, and extensively, voice synthesizer community.[11]
KAFU's first official compilation album titled "SYMMETRY" (シンメトリー) was released for pre-order reservation on November 25, 2021.[12]
KAFU was featured at the KAMITSUBAKI EXHIBITION (神椿展) where various works such as music videos and illustrations were on display. [13]

KAFU was featured at the 2022 Nico Nico Chokaigi KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO Musical Isotope Project booth on April 29th and 30th alongside SEKAI and upcoming vocalist RIME. Video content such as software introduction videos and artist music videos were projected, and panels featuring the Musical Isotopes were exhibited.[14]
On July 5th KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO announced the ARTIFICIAL SINGING SYNTHESIZER 1ST ANNIVERSARY PROGRAM livestream event to be held on July 7.[15][16] The event featured voice actress and singer Miyu Tomita joined by KAFU, SEKAI and guest starring voice providers Isekaijoucho, KAF and RIM who conducted a series of new announcements regarding the Musical Isotope Project project.[17] The first was the announcement of a new series of new compilation albums for KAFU titled 絢爛のアシンメトリー (Gorgeous Asymmetry), 夢幻のアシンメトリー (Phantom Asymmetry) amd 結晶のアシンメトリー (Crystal Asymmetry) to be released on July 13, 20 and 27 respectively.[18].
The third announcement is the production of series of four-panel long Musical Isotope themed manga comics titled 同位体観察日記 (Musical Isotope Observation Diary, the first of which was published on the official Twitter account. [19] The fourth announcement, in celebration of the project's 1st anniversary, is of two 12 cm plush dolls featuring KAFU and SEKAI. Pre-orders for the plush dolls would begin on July 7 through July 25 on the official FINDME STORE.[20] The fifth announcement is of the creation of a new website portal for the Musical Isotope Project.[21][22] Following the announcements was a congratulatory message from KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO director PIEDPIPER as well as various other staff members and producers and messages from Isekaijoucho, KAF and RIM themselves.[23]
