History[]
2022[]
Kanato Mell made her first debut on April 20, 2022 as a Virtual YouTuber, known at the time as "kanato mell", prior to her announcement as a Song Voice for CeVIO AI.[1] Since her debut, kanato mell has been featured in various illustrations and has partaken in various streaming and music activities, such as producing original music and cover songs on the official SHOWROOM streaming platform and YouTube respectively.
On June 25, a new illustration, logo and a refined profile for mell, now referred to as "Kanato Mell" was released, with the words "#ボーカロイド", "#ボカロ", and "#CeVIOAI" appearing in the tagline of the new illustration. Previously, the Virtual YouTuber used the same tags when performing covers and original songs as many of the songs covered were created by notable VOCALOID producers.[2] From then on, the image would be used as the official image for Mell in all of her streaming and music-related activities.[3]
While unspecified to be strictly using her CeVIO AI vocal at the time, VOCALOID producer Mell.P began uploading cover songs and arrangements featuring Kanato Mell beginning on October 1, the first of which featured the VOCALOID Hatsune Miku. These videos were tagged using the "#CeVIOAI" tag and featured a synthesized voice for Mell, alluding to the vocal being a new CeVIO AI vocal.
Kanato Mell received her first official demonstration reel on November 28 with ten original and cover songs, programmed and mixed by Hiroyuki Hiraga.[4]
2023[]
On March 7, 2023, Kanato Mell was officially announced to be releasing as a Song Voice for CeVIO AI. Pre-order reservations for her Song Voice and Starter Pack digital editions were announced with a release date set for April 20. She would only be available as a digital product.[5][6]
While initially unrevealed, on March 16, Kanato Mell's illustrator was confirmed to be Warashi by the Virtual YouTuber kanato mell in response to a fan inquiry. It was also confirmed that the producer Mell.P was not the voice provider as it was noted that Mell.P is not a voice actor.[7]
2024: 2.0 vocoder update[]
On May 16, 2024, Kanato Mell's CeVIO AI Song Voice received an update incorporating the 2.0 vocoder first seen in VoiSona Song voicebanks;[8] at the same time, both her 1.0- and 2.0-vocoder voicebanks were ported to and released for the VoiSona platform in both subscription and lifetime-license options, with previous owners of her CeVIO AI Song Voice eligible to obtain her VoiSona for free.[9]
