History[]

Koharu Rikka was announced on May 16, 2020[1] with official illustrations and information, including who her voice provider was with examples, and the schedule and goals of her crowdfunding campaign. Her crowdfunding campaign began on May 28, with a goal of 7 million yen for her VOICEROID2 product and 400 exVOICE samples. The crowdfunding campaign reached that goal approximately 15 minutes after it went live.[2]

The campaign's first stretch goal was 10 million yen, which was hit not long after the initial goal of 7 million yen was reached. The stretch goals for 13 million yen and 16 million yen were reached as well just a couple of hours after the campaign went live.[3] All stretch goal rewards involved additional emotional parameters (one new emotion for each stretch goal reached) and additional exVOICE recordings, including a set recorded with a binaural microphone for an ASMR effect.

In response to all of her stretch goals being reached in record time, TOKYO6 ENTERTAINMENT tweeted that they would consider additional stretch goals.[4] The first confirmed additional stretch goal was a 3D model of Rikka that would be included with her VOICEROID software if the campaign reached 19 million yen.[5] This additional stretch goal was reached within the first 24 hours of the campaign being live as well.

The final stretch goal for the campaign was 25 million yen, which would give Rikka the funds to receive a singing synthesizer bank if reached.[6] This amount was reached on June 6, about a week and a half after the campaign began, though the actual synthesizer was not specified at the time.[7] On June 26, Synthesizer V Studio was revealed as her singing engine.[8]

On October 30, it was revealed that VOICEROID plans ceased in favor of having her talk software be on CeVIO AI Talk instead due to a desire from TOKYO6 to be on all the latest technology at the time of Rikka's eventual release.[9] Those who were disappointed with the decision were given the option to apply for a refund if they had contributed to her crowdfunding campaign.

Rikka's CeVIO AI Talk Voice was first shown on December 24. She officially released on March 18, 2021 for both CeVIO AI and Synthesizer V Studio.[10]

2.0 vocoder update[]

On March 22, 2024, AH-Software Co. Ltd. announced that all of its Japanese CeVIO AI Talk voicebanks, including Koharu Rikka, would be updated to the 2.0 vocoder first introduced on VoiSona Talk. Rikka was scheduled to receive the vocoder update in June according to the press release.[11][12]

On May 21, the release date for Rikka's 2.0 vocoder update (as well as her VoiSona Talk Voice library) was narrowed down to June 20.[13]
