Otobe Hisui (乙辺ヒスイ Otobe Hisui) is an upcoming Japanese Song Voice announced to be developed by Techno-Speech, Inc. in collaboration with GEMVOX. She is expected to be released for VoiSona in December 2025.
Her voice provider is Japanese singer Yun*chi, who also provided the voice for Hisui's older sister Otobe Sapphire for the VOCALOID6 engine.
Concept[]
Otobe Hisui is described as a girl with an infinitely soft, enveloping voice that is as gentle as the wind through the forest, and kindles a quiet jade light within the hearts of those who hear it. She is the younger sister of Otobe Sapphire.
Hisui was born and raised beside a deep forest. Listening intently to the dappled sunlight and the sound of the babbling brook, she came to know that “sound has the power to heal the soul.” It is said that this voice can revive withered flowers or nurture tiny sprouts deep within the heart. Despite this, she pays little heed to such things, murmuring only, “The forest is smiling gently again today.” Thinking of her sister far away by the sea, Hisui sings deep in the forest once more. Her melody drifts through the trees, eventually melting into the sky. She is a presence that holds the strength of life within stillness.
Her favorite things are “leaves wet with morning dew” and “paths bathed in dappled sunlight.” Her dream is to fill the world with a gentle jade hue through her song.[2]
Etymology[]
The kanji "Oto" (乙) can mean "the latter", "duplicate", "strange", or "witty";[3] it is also an archaic term used as a prefix for "young(er/est)".[4] The kanji "Be" (辺) can mean "environs", "boundary", "border", or "vicinity";[5] in archaic or poetical contexts it can also mean "surrounding area" and is sometimes used as a suffix to roughly indicate location.[6] Put together, "Otobe" (乙辺), which is a known family name or surname,[7] can possibly mean "young environment".
As with all GEMVOX vocals, her given name is based upon that of a gemstone; however, unlike the first three vocals, hers is a native Japanese word ("Hisui") rather than a word borrowed from English (like "Topaz", "Jasper", or "Sapphire"). "Hisui", which although writable in kanji as "翡翠" is most commonly written today in katakana as "ヒスイ", means "jade" (a green gemstone, green being her symbol color).[8] Her name is written in Japanese styling, similar to vocalists like Kagamine Rin (鏡音リン).
