SHINE POST Be Your Idol! features the player acting as a new manager of an idol office. The player will struggle to manage the office day by day in order to turn the girls you met at an audition into idols. As the manager, the player will "protect the idols' smiling faces" and will sometimes be tasked with making tough decisions, while aiming for the success of the Budokan concert in three years' time.
The player, referred to as "You", is noted to have never had a dream in their life, but one day the player is shocked when they see a live performance of the popular idol "Hotaru" (螢). While unable to become an idol them-self, the player is able to support the dreams of idols and, with this thought in mind, started working to establish an entertainment agency.
A few years later, the player obtains the funds to set up their own company, and the player is then able to establish their own entertainment agency. With former idol and choreographer Izumino Koyume (和泉野小夢 (いずみのこゆめ)) as their consultant, the player can start running the office as a newly minted manager along with the 23 idols that have been selected through auditions. The goal of the game is to have a successful live show at the Budokan concert in three years.
The game features three primary game modes including managing the office and training idols on a daily basis, booking venues, creating setlists, and producing live shows as well as organizing a live concert with the main objective to perform at the Budokan. In-game auditions are held once a year. The player may choose members from among the various idol applicants and create their own group. The player will raise funds by collecting sponsors, radio recordings, magazine shoots, and more. The player will also produce live shows by booking venues and creating setlists. It is also important to actively invest the funds raised in the growth of the company. Lastly, the player will organize live performances where they can show the results of their daily work. The idol group's in-game "CLASS" will grow by letting the idols experience live performances. The game includes many real venues such as the Yoani LIVE Station and Nakano Sunplaza.[7][8]
All 23 idols in the the game feature the use of AI vocal synthesis technology developed by Techno-Speech, Inc.. In an interview with game producer Ishihara, he notes that on the road to the Budokan, it is important for the player to gradually upgrade their idols so that they can hold a larger-scale live concert, but in order to upgrade, the player will have to make the live successful, which means they would have to entertain the diverse fans who come to the venue. To do this, the player would need to choose the right songs to sing, and if the size of the venue is larger, more fans will come and more variety will be required for the live and, in other words, a larger number of songs and set lists are also important. He notes that if one tries to incorporate songs that require physical strength such as dance numbers or expressiveness, if the idol does not have the physical strength to do so, they will make repeated mistakes and it will be difficult to successfully hold the live. If an idol is properly trained and grows, they would make fewer mistakes and become better at singing; this can be seen in live performances with the adoption of a specialized AI voice library allowing the combination of all songs and singing positions from all idols. As the song distribution is also quite complex for each song, the player can enjoy the song distribution similar to that of a real idol unit and the formation dance with wonderful choreography by CRE8BOY.
He notes that since there is a high degree of freedom in changing the singing position, it is necessary to sing the singing parts in all combinations. As such an AI singing library with deep learning was created specifically for it. If the training is not advanced, the idols will often make mistakes in live performances, which will result in off-pitch, off-tempo, and poor use of vibrato and long tones resulting in a poor singing performance. However, as training progresses, the mistakes are noted to decrease and they will be improved, which is how the training is expressed.
He notes that if you try to express these things through live singing, it would take an incredible amount of time to record, so the live scenes are unique to the use of the singing library. It was noted that people may be concerned about the quality of AI singing, however with the companies' previous release of their AI singing libraries called LAUGH DiAMOND, a portion of the technology has already been made public.[9] LAUGH DiAMOND's members Takamura Hibiki, Kazamatsuri Asahi, Komurasaki Momoka, and Yamada Kanon are among four of the 23 total idols in the game, all of which utilize the technology.
