History[]

2021[]

UNI, also known as UNI-chan (ユニちゃん) was first announced by name and product code CCD-0001 only as the newest character in U-Stella Inc.'s "Caricature" (カリカチュア) lineup on April 13, 2021.[1] She made her official debut on May 1, with concept illustrations created by Kokage Tomori.[2] Since her debut, UNI has gone on to receive content such as character models for Live2D, as well as a planned 3D model.[3][4][5]

2023[]

On June 20, 2023, U-Stella Inc. announced a new crowdfunding campaign with the goal of developing a CeVIO AI Talk Voice for UNI, the second Caricature android and FEE's older sister. Her voice was announced to be provided by the Japanese voice actress and singer Kohara Riko (小原莉子). Crowdfunding was set to begin on June 26. A stretch goal for the development of a Song Voice for UNI was also announced.[6] Various additional stretch goals were announced including the creation of Limited Edition illustrations for download, a voice message from UNI-chan, a packaged version of her standalone version, an autographed letter from the official illustrator Kokage Tomori (darudana), various Limited Edition goods such as a Dakimakura cover, a series of SP VOICE (.wav) materials provided by Kohara Riko and a special Limited Edition "Doki Doki!?" SP VOICE collection, an acrylic stand, a name reading by UNI and an offer to create an original from-scratch 3D model.[7]

The crowdfunding campaign officially began on June 26 as intended hosted via CAMPFIRE and amassed over 75% of its initial ¥4,500,000 yen goal within its first day.[8][9][10] The following day U-Stella Inc. released the normal edition of the SP VOICE material collection on the official BOOTH account available to download for supporters of the crowdfund.[11] By June 30, UNI's crowdfund was successfully funded, exceeding 100% of the initial goal. UNI's potential Song Voice was announced to be funded if the crowdfund could reach 300% of the initial goal.[12] Additional reference artwork of the accessories detailing UNI's illustration were released the following day.[13].

The second stretch goal for the production of UNI's CeVIO AI Song Voice was achieved on July 23.[14][15] The crowdfund concluded on July 24, reaching 405% of the initial goal, with a total of ¥18,255,500 yen raised by 947 supporters.[16][17]
