History[]
While not directly related to Ying Can, in 2018, Techno-Speech, Inc. had developed an experimental Mandarin Chinese Song Voice, prior to the release of VoiSona, in collaboration with the Nagoya Institute of Technology Speech and Language Processing Laboratory, and showcased various samples incorporating the use of AI deep learning technology.[1] This prototype voice library, however, was not released to the public.
2025[]
On January 29, 2025, in celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year, Chorical LLC published a teaser video of a new Mandarin Chinese feminine vocalist covering "Jasmine" (茉莉花, Mòlìhuā), a traditional folk song covered in the past by several Mandarin vocals on different vocal-synthesizer engines (such as VOCALOID3 YANHE).[2][3]
On March 30, a teaser pink silhouette of the still-unnamed Mandarin vocal, surrounded by bubbles, was published by Chorical on Twitter with the caption "She's getting herself ready~".[4]
On April 3, Chorical revealed the full illustration of the silhouette, formally introducing Ying Can, the company's newest voice library in production.[5] Ying Can was announced be illustrated by VOFAN, a Taiwanese illustrator known for providing the E-Capsule Co. Ltd promotional illustration for the VOCALOID2 voicebank Sweet ANN, as well as providing official illustrations for the Taiwanese VOCALOID3 and VOCALOID4 (Japanese-only) illustrations for Xin Hua. She was designed by Chorical LLC CEO Infoholic, VOFAN and toeknee. [6] Ying Can was announced to be the first commercially available Mandarin Chinese Song Voice to be available for VoiSona, and would be available digitally in both subscription and one-time-purchase formats. She was then announced to be released later in the month of April 2025.[7] Her official biography and website were announced to be revealed on Monday, April 7, with further information announced to be released throughout the month.[8] On April 13, Ying Can's reference sheet was released.[9] On April 21, along with the launch of her debut song, it was announced that Ying Can would be releasing on April 30.[10] On April 23, pre-orders for Ying Can were made available and her profile at the official VoiSona website was launched. One-month free trials would be released on April 30.[11]
